The Wonderful World of Poshmark

If you click on "Shop My Closet" in my tabs above, you are taken to a site called Poshmark. Poshmark is a wonderful little app I discovered just in time for spring cleaning.

So far, my experience with this app has been extremely positive in both buying and selling. If you're new to Poshmark, this will serve as a guide to get started!

What I L-O-V-E

  • Free download + no listing fees! - eBay is great, but it's also slightly confusing, especially for someone like me who just wants to recycle her favorite things. The Poshmark app is free and there are no listing fees, so you can list as much as you want. To list, simply snap a few pictures and upload them directly to Poshmark.
  • Easy to use - Poshmark has a great FAQ's section and explains everything up front so you're not confused halfway through your sale.
  • Shipping is included (for sellers) - When you sell an item, Poshmark automatically creates a shipping label and sends it directly to your email. All you have to do is print it out and tape it to your package! The labels are good for items up to 2 lbs. Any more than that costs extra for shipping.
  • DEALS DEALS DEALS! - Who doesn't love finding awesome deals? With a bit of searching, designer items can be found at a fraction of the original price.

And Why I Say "Ehh..."

  • Poshmark fees - For sellers, this means 20% of all sales goes to PM. The good news is that they tell you this price up front. When you list your item, you can enter the listing price and PM tells you how much you'll make from the sale.
  • Shipping costs - If you're buying on Poshmark, you pay for the shipping. $4.99 for orders $25+ and $6.99 for other orders.
  • Balance - Once you sell something on PM, it goes into your "Pending Balance." However, the money is only accessible after the customer accepts the order (or 72 hours after the item is delivered.) From your "Available Balance," you can transfer to your bank account or request a check. I don't like either of these options because I don't like giving out my bank account information and checks can take a while to receive. The only other option is to contact Poshmark support and they will deposit your current balance into your Paypal account, which is what I opted for.

Now, for the fun part! I've made a total of two purchases from Poshmark - both Lilly Pulitzer finds.

I found this adorable Lilly Pulitzer cosmetic for $15 (plus $6.99 shipping). Originally a GWP (gift with purchase) from the Lilly Pulitzer for Estee Lauder collection, I love the zip around style and cute patchwork print. Plus, the size is perfect to fit all of my makeup for my daily routine. I purchased it in "like new" condition. The plastic wrap was even still on the mirror and zippers when I received it.

Most. Exciting. Purchase. Ever. I found my dream Lilly Pulitzer bag for only $32 (plus $4.99 shipping). Originally a GWP, I was dying when I found out that you had to spend $500 to get the tote. I've searched high and low on eBay and Lilly resale sites, and they all ranged from $80-$100. Definitely a steal!

For Sellers

  • Be honest! If there's a spot/flaw on an item you're selling, don't try to hide it. If a potential buyer asks for pictures, post them! It's better to be upfront about it than to have an unhappy buyer (that may or may not notify Poshmark and can jeopardize your selling abilities!)
  • Bundles are your best friend. Not only does the buyer save on shipping costs, but you get rid of multiple items in one go! Many Poshers (Poshmark members) offer discounts for certain bundles.
  • Spend extra time on your pictures for listings. The Poshmark often centers the picture at a weird angle. I upload my own and add filters and text to make my listings stand out!
  • Follow up with likes and comments! Most of the sales I've made are from me being accessible when the buyer likes or comments.
  • Be flexible. Be willing to negotiate prices on items, especially if they're used.

For Buyers

  • Ask questions! Don't be afraid to ask for more pictures, item descriptions, or any other questions you may have on an item.
  • Know what you're buying. I know it's time consuming, but it will save you a lot of heartbreak if you do research up front. Search eBay and other Poshmark closets before settling on an item to make sure you're getting the best deal and quality!
  • Make offers! Many sellers are flexible when it comes to price. Don't be afraid to make an offer and see if you can get the price down a little bit.
  • Don't forget about shipping fees! Remember when you're buying that you also have to pay for shipping, so that $10 cosmetic turns into a $16.99 purchase after shipping is added.
  • Search, search, search! Poshmark is great because it takes the work out of thrifting. Search for your favorite brands, styles, and sizes all in one place!

  1. Hi! I've never heard that you can put your poshmark funds into your PayPal account. Would I still be able to do that today? Do I just need to contact poshmark support?

  2. My balance was higher than the check I received from Poshmark? What $ do they take out?
